“The draft amendments, in as much as, they pertain to the judiciary should be discussed with the elected representatives of the legal community and political parties should be taken on board and their point of view accommodated as far as possible,” Rabbani said in a statement while demanding the government place the draft of the constitutional amendment before the people for a national debate. After the national debate, such draft should be considered by the cabinet and placed before the parliament, he added.

He said it is not necessary that the bill be passed unanimously, but a broad understanding on a majority of the amendments should be reached. He said the Special Parliamentary Committee formed is the best platform for such consensus building.
