The Sindh Bar Council (SBC) on Monday expressed concern at reports stating that the Sindh police executed a blasphemy suspect in their custody and at videos showing police officers being praised and adorned with garlands for such an act.

After the killing of the man, his body was burnt by an enraged mob. The SBC said that no matter what the offence was, no one could be allowed to take the law into their own hands, commit extrajudicial killings and burning the corpse of any suspect.

The provincial bar council said that punishment for any offence must be administered as per the law and after due trial in accordance with the law. The SBC also asked the Singh government to provide protection to the deceased man’s family as their lives were under threat after the fake encounter. The bar council also called for a proper judicial inquiry into the incident and strict punishment for any custodian of the law and the mob who took the law into their own hands.
