Despite its pivotal role in shaping future generations, the university has suffered from decades of neglect and a lack of development, but this is now changing under the second phase of the Peshawar Uplift Programme.

Under the project, roads are being constructed and the campus infrastructure is being improved to give a new look to the sprawling campus. The sprawling campus is also home to Islamia College, University of Engineering and Technology, Agricultural University, Forest College, Khyber Medical College, Khyber Teaching Hospital, PCSIR, and several other institutions.

With nearly 100,000 people residing on campus, 90 percent of whom are students, the campus serves as a hub of learning, attracting students from across Pakistan and abroad.Over the years, however, the university’s development has been overlooked, with financial constraints and reduced staffing contributing to the decline of its infrastructure.

The lack of investment left the campus in disrepair, and it failed to match the standards of top-ranking universities worldwide, where learning environments are as important as classroom instruction.

The programme’s second phase focuses on essential upgrades, such as road repairs, the construction of restrooms for students, and widening of footpaths, making the campus more accessible and student-friendly.

“These improvements will help create a conducive environment for education,” said Peshawar Commissioner Riaz Khan Mahsud, who is supervising the project. He said that thousands of students from across the province and country came to the University of Peshawar each year, and this initiative would enhance their academic experience.

The Peshawar Uplift Programme signals a new chapter for the University of Peshawar. With these advancements, the university is poised to regain its status as a beacon of learning and progress, contributing to the future of education in Pakistan.
