LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ruled that a widow will not be dismissed from government service on her second marriage after the death of her first husband.
A two-member bench led by Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal gave the decision on the petition of Zoya Islam. The widow had been given the job of Naib Qasid in a government department in 2020 after the death of her husband Islam. She contracted the second marriage in 2021 and was sacked due to the second marriage.
The court said the widow could marry and this was a basic right of a woman in Islam. Sacking a widow from job for contracting second marriage is against Shariah.
