On the call of the District Bar Association, the lawyers stayed away from court proceedings in protest against the killing of Iftikhar Khan advocate.

Iftikhar Khan advocate was killed and four other people sustained injuries when two rival groups exchanged fire on a piece of disputed land in the Sherpur area of the district.

The litigants, who had come from across the district for pursuance of their cases, returned to their respective designations without court proceedings.

Also, the funeral prayers for the slain lawyer were offered in his native Sherpur village, which was attended by a large number of people including lawyers.

Hafiz Naseem Khan Advocate, president of the District Bar Association, told reporters that they had demanded the police to ensure the arrest of the two accused.

He said that the legal fraternity firmly stood behind the bereaved family in this critical time.

Meanwhile, a boy drowned and his friend was rescued by locals here in Siran River on Saturday.
