PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported a polio case on Friday, raising the number of cases to 21 in the country.
According to the provincial health authorities, a 9-month old girl from Safi subdivision of Mohmand tribal district was tested positive for the polio virus.
The authorities had sent her sample to the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad where it was confirmed that the baby girl was a victim of polio virus.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, health department and national and international organisations worked hard to keep the province clear of polio virus for nine months this year.
Despite facing serious challenges on the ground, including security threats, refusals from unwilling parents motivated by religious leaders, the polio workers and other members their teams had been struggling hard to eliminate the menace of polio virus from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Most of them were hurt and disappointed when they came to know about the first polio case in KP.
The provincial government has reportedly taken its very serious and convened an emergency meeting to discuss what went wrong with the campaign against polio that paralysed a child in Mohmand tribal district.
