Karachi: The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and its allied parties have labelled the proposed amendments to the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) Act and construction of six new canals to draw additional water from the Indus River as an anti-Sindh project by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
The GDA announced that its struggle would continue until these projects were stopped. The alliance said the entire province from Karachi to Kashmore had been protesting against these plans.
GDA leader Sardar Abdul Rahim and others made these remarks on Thursday during a protest demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club. The protest was attended by workers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Sindh United Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, Qaumi Awami Tehreek, Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Jeay Sindh Mahaz, People’s Workers Party and Democratic Awami Party.
