PESHAWAR: The Public prosecutors across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Wednesday announced an indefinite boycott of judicial proceedings, starting from today (Thursday) in protest against the provincial government’s failure to set up an independent and autonomous Prosecution Department and the office of the Prosecutor General.
The KP Prosecution Officers Welfare Association has presented a nine-point agenda to the government, threatening to bring the entire criminal justice system to a standstill if their demands are not met. The Peshawar High Court Bar Association, along with other regional bars, has extended support to the prosecutors and urged the government to meet their legitimate demands.
The decision was made during a provincial convention organized by the KP Prosecution Officers Association in Peshawar.
Prosecutors from across the province attended the event. The key speakers included the association’s president, Sangeen Shah and General Secretary Javed Ali Mohmand, Amin Khan president Attached Department Association, Noor Zaman Khattak, president Law Officers Welfare Association. Prominent members of the legal fraternity, such as the President of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association Fida Gul advocate, and other provincial bar leaders, also participated in the convention.
