In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, she expressed gratitude to the Sindh chief minister and other members of the provincial cabinet for the decision to provide free-of-charge birth registration services in the province.

The statement read that on the directions of the senator, BISP Director General in Sindh Zulfiqar Ali Sheikh earlier held several meeting with Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab and other authorities to raise the issue.

In the meetings, the BISP senior official informed the authorities about the problems being faced by the beneficiaries of the income support programme in registering births of the newborns in their families and issuance of the B-Form for their children.

He said that these documents were essential for successful participation in the National Database and Registration Authority’s re-certification survey. He urged Karachi-based authorities to waive the birth registration fee for the newly born children of the BISP beneficiaries to help them obtain the B-Form for these children in the future.

Senator Rubina said the Sindh cabinet had taken a people-friendly decision to benefit the women from destitute and deprived communities for their successful participation in the BISP’s re-certification survey. She said the children of the bona fide deserving families as identified in the BISP re-certification survey would get scholarships to cover their educational

expenses.
