Agricultural research station in Karak to be upgraded

KARAK: Provincial Minister for Agriculture Major (Retired) Sajjad Barkwal announced upgradation of Ahmedwala Agricultural Research Station District and the cultivation of saffron on an experimental basis in the district.

He expressed these views at the closing ceremony of the Honey Project at Ahmedwala, Agricultural Research Station here. Director General Agriculture Extension Abdul Qayyum Khan, Senior Director Dr Dil Fayyaz Khan, Project Director Muhammad Younas Khan, Station Director Tahir Sajjad, Research Officers Dr Muhammad Ejaz Khan and Ashfaq Khan attended the ceremony.

The minister was briefed on the ongoing activities of the Agriculture Department particularly the beekeeping training. Sajjad Barkwal said that a new agricultural policy was being prepared at the provincial level to increase agricultural production per hectare.

He said the government was paying full attention to increase the production of crops. The development of agriculture can make the province self-sufficient in food needs, he added. He said steps were being taken for the development of agriculture and the welfare of farmers. The minister announced the establishment of Dhaki Khajoor Sub-Station and the establishment of an olive nursery. He distributed certificates among the trainees under the management of Honey Project.
