According to an official, X Ray revealed four bullets inside the leopard. "The veterinary surgeon managed to remove one bullet, which was fired from a 12-bore shotgun. The others lodged in the animal's vertebrae and heart area. We will continue treatment," he said.

The official said the injured leopard was found in a nullah in Haveli district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He said the AJK wildlife department had already started an investigation into the matter and submitted an application to police to register FIR against unknown assailants. The official said common leopards needed better protection if they were to survive in this country.
