FAISALABAD: Pakistan international cricketer Sahibzada Farhan, currently representing the Dolphins in the Champions Cup One-Day tournament, has set his sights on becoming the tournament’s top scorer.

However, Farhan emphasised that performance in a single tournament should not be the only criterion for selection in the national squad.

In an interview with Geo News and The News after the Dolphins’ recent loss to the Panthers, Farhan discussed his team’s performance and his personal aspirations.

“Mohammad Huraira and I got off to a strong start, but we should have carried it through to finish the game,” Farhan said. “Huraira and I later reflected that we shouldn’t have left the match at that stage. Sarfraz Ahmed, our mentor, also pointed out that given our start, we should have won.”

Farhan acknowledged that the team let the game slip due to avoidable mistakes.

“We had the game in our hands early on, but we lost wickets to errors near the boundary,” he explained. “These weren’t dismissals like LBW or caught behind; they were preventable.”

He praised the quality of the competition in the Champions Cup, noting the intensity of the matchups and the presence of top-tier players. “The level of cricket is very high, with excellent batsmen and bowlers in every match,” he said, adding that the fan turnout has made the games even more thrilling.

Farhan reiterated his ambition to be the leading scorer, but emphasised that more consistent performances over time are needed for national team selection. “One tournament alone shouldn’t determine selection.

There’s a lot of cricket coming up in the next six months, and all players’ performances should be considered.”
