Leaving Peaky Blinders before its final two series—just as the show saw a surge in viewership—Joe shifted his focus to lead roles and earned the British Independent Film Award for Best Actor in 2018.
Reflecting on his path to acting, Joe told The Times, "I found it hard to focus on my coursework and the work needed to get to university. But drama and theatre studies ignited a fire in my belly, driving me to pursue my passion."
Joe has made notable appearances on The Bill, Holby City, and the cult series Skins.
He paid a heartfelt tribute to his late Peaky Blinders co-star Helen McCrory, who passed away from breast cancer in 2021 at the age of 52.
Helen, renowned for her role as the formidable Aunt Polly, left a profound impact on those around her, including Joe.
Reflecting on Helen’s extraordinary presence, Joe shared, "The people who burn the brightest in this world may be the ones taken too soon. It’s heartbreaking."
He described Helen as someone who kept everyone on their toes—in the best way possible.
