Speaking at a press conference, former MPA and independent candidate for the slot of tehsil chairman Jamrud Shafique Sher Afridi said the ECP postponed the by-election at the behest of the provincial government.

“We condemn this decision as it was made without any justification,” he said.

Questing the logic behind the decision, he said the schedule for the by-election had already been released. He said the by-election was slated for September 25, which was postponed unjustly.

The former MPA added the law and order was satisfactory in Jamrud and it was under the control of the government, therefore, urging the ECP to withdraw its decision and hold the election as per the previous schedule.

Shafique said the candidates would move the court if the ECP did not withdraw its decision.

He said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was ruling the province and the the PTI had three MPAs and one MNA from Khyber tribal district so there was no logic behind postponing the LG polls.

He said that they believed in serving the people and wanted the democratic process to continue with any hurdle.
