Islamabad:Well over 300 dengue fever patients have so far been tested positive from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi and the number of cases is continuously on the rise hinting towards a severe outbreak of the infection in the next few days.
Data collected by ‘The News’ on Tuesday has revealed that the number of patients being tested positive for dengue fever from the region has started registering a tremendous increase as in the last four days, nearly 80 individuals belonging to the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been confirmed positive for the infection.
Data provided by the district health authority Rawalpindi on Tuesday reveals that in the last 24 hours, another 18 patients from Rawalpindi district have tested positive for dengue fever taking the total number of confirmed patients so far reported from the district this year to 189. The dengue fever has already claimed one life from Rawalpindi district.
On the other hand, nearly 35 individuals have tested positive for dengue fever from Islamabad Capital Territory from where the total number of patients has crossed the figure of 125 though the virus has so far claimed no life from the federal capital. According to details, nearly 90 patients have been tested positive for dengue fever from rural areas while 40 patients have been confirmed positive from urban areas of the federal capital.
It is important to mention that well over 55 per cent of the patients tested positive from Islamabad have reported at the three allied hospitals in Rawalpindi including Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District headquarters Hospital.
Health experts say that the continuous rise in the number of confirmed cases of dengue fever from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi at the time is alarming as the peak season for transmission of dengue fever in this region of the country has set in.
