He said this while presiding over a meeting on necessary reforms and capacity building in the Securities and Emergency Services Division of the Sindh Police at Central Palace Office Karachi.

Officials said the meeting was attended by the Additional IG Karachi, DIGs of Establishment, Training, Securities and Emergency Services Division, Commandant SSU, Razzaqabad Police Training College and other police officers.

The meeting decided to set up a Securities and Emergency Training Institute in Malir’s Chowkandi area and regular consultations and suggestions were covered on all necessary details in this regard. The meeting was informed that special courses in counter-terrorism, intelligence, bomb disposal squad, rescue services and other services would be conducted in the training institute.

DIG Maqsood Ahmed briefed the participants about the establishment and objectives of the institute and said that the establishment of this institute was very important for the special courses of SSU and other forces. He said the process of preparing a list was going on with the availability of necessary equipment, weapons and training equipment in this institute.

In addition, all possible steps will be ensured for providing services to not only domestic but also training experts of international forces. IGP Memon said that in addition to increasing the manpower of the Sindh Police, there is also a need to draw attention to the establishment of training institutions and the centers, he added.

He said the training centers of the Sindh Police provide training to the personnel associated with law enforcement agencies at the national level, which is undoubtedly a matter of pride and honour for the Sindh Police Department.

He told the meeting that the establishment of a special training institute has become imperative to deal with the threats of terrorism and new methods and challenges of crime. As soon as possible, comprehensive proposals containing all the necessary documents should be prepared and sent to the Sindh government for approval and verification measures.

Earlier, IGP Memon presided over a meeting at the Central Police Office Karachi with Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) officials and DIGs of Operational and Investigations, SSPs and SPs on the prevention of drugs and eradication of mafia.

Officials said the meeting was briefed in detail by ANF provincial chief Brigadier Umar Farooq on drug trafficking, purchase and sale, delivery, chemical manufacture, use and prevention in the province.

It was also informed that ice, crystal meth, weed and other synthetic drugs are being produced regionally from various chemicals, while these synthetic drugs are being supplied in the form of daily use and food items, and the youth are being made addicted to artificial drugs by adding sweet toffees, chocolates, energy drinks etc. in vape.

He said parents should keep a close eye on their children’s behaviour and their friends because excessive anger, constant awakening, abnormal changes in the eyelids are major signs of the possible use of artificial drugs. In addition, synthetic drugs are 75 percent more deadly and harmful to human life than indigenous drugs.

These synthetic drugs are being bought and transported through unauthorized courier services, while the drug money is used for money laundering and terrorism. He said that synthetic drugs can lead to the destruction of not only the society but also the future builders of the youth. Therefore, we all have to work together against this social evil and in this regard there is an urgent need for strong and coordinated action under the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force against synthetic drugs.

IGP Memon said the Sindh Police has already started extraordinary operations against drugs, including prevention of crime, but there is a need for all institutions to work together to ensure action against drug mafias.

He added that it should be ensured that necessary information is provided. He tasked the CTD to compile a list of courier companies operating against the SOP as soon as possible, while the two institutions should also formulate a strategy against the drug mafia in consultation and measures. The IGP said the future course of action would be decided in the next meeting regarding the agenda of today’s meeting.
