Anti-polio campaign starts to vaccinate 786,000 children in Rawalpindi District

Rawalpindi:The 7th anti-polio campaign begins in Rawalpindi with a target population of 786,000. Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engr.

Amir Khattak inaugurated the anti-polio campaign by administering immunization shots to young children here on Monday. According to the details, 245 UCMOs and 870 area in-charges have been appointed across the district for the campaign.

There are 3,675 mobile teams, 330 fixed points and 163 transit points established in the entire district to achieve the target. During the five day campaign in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad and 7 days in other 12 districts of Punjab, 13.9 million children of age less than or equal to 5 years will be vaccinated including in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Chakwal, Attock, Okara, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Rajanpur.

On the first day, one lakh 60 thousand children in Rawalpindi district are given polio vaccine. Talking on the occasion the commissioner said that the districts have been selected on the basis of the degree of spread of polio cases.

He said that polio eradication is the top priority of the government for which the micro plan has been restructured. "Special monitoring teams have also been formed to ensure the quality of the anti-polio campaign," he said.

He urged the parents to cooperate with polio workers to secure the future of their children. Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema, the Director of Health, the Coordinator World Health Organisation, and other relevant officers were also present at the inaugural event.

Islamabad: A five-day anti-polio vaccination campaign was launched in the Federal Capital on Monday, with the goal of vaccinating the 421,455 children. The campaign was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, who personally administered the first dose to a child during the ceremony, said the spokesman of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration.

The main objective of the campaign to reach every child and protect the community from the threat of polio. Over the next five days, teams will conduct door to door visit across the city to ensure no child is left behind.

Before the inauguration, an anti-polio meeting was held under the chairmanship of DC Islamabad, which was attended by the District Health Officer (DHO) and the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) East.

The meeting reviewed plans and preparations for the campaign, including security arrangements for the vaccination teams. The campaign will run from September 9 to September 13, during which vaccination teams will go door-to-door to reach every household.

Any children missed during this period will be vaccinated from September 14 to September 15. DC Islamabad stressed that polio teams will cover all areas of the city, ensuring that every child receives the vaccine. Citizens are urged to ensure their children receive the drops as part of the city’s effort to eradicate polio. DC Islamabad, Irfan Memon, appealed to parents, encouraging them to make sure their children are vaccinated to protect them from polio.
