LAHORE:Electricity and Wapda workers have appealed to the Prime Minister to intervene and get redressed the high rate of electricity being provided by the IPPs to power distribution Companies (DISCOs).
Since IPPs providing electricity at far high Rate of Rs50/- to Rs60/- per unit even no electricity is used by DISCOs. On the other hand, Wapda has been providing electricity at the rate of Rs3.50/- per unit to DISCOs, observed electricity / Wapda workers in a meeting held at Bakhtiar Labour Hall, on Sunday.
The representatives of the workers participated from all over the country, including KP, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan which was presided over by Abdul Latif Nizamani, President of the Union. On this occasion, Khurshid Ahmad, General Secretary addressing the workers demanded the Prime Minister order recruiting staff as per strength which has been pending for last seven years. The failure to hire new staff has led to quantum of work rising for the existing staff tremendously. That is the reason that fatal and non-fatal accidents of line staff have been occurring every now and then.
He also demanded the PM and Federal Minister for Energy to get stopped lawlessness of lawless elements against electricity field staff during the performance of their work of prevention of theft of electricity and recovery of electricity revenue. More than 100,000 FIRs have been lodged, yet not a single accused has been punished.
The meeting was also addressed by Haji Younas Kamboh, Haji Ramzan Achakzai, Haji Iqbal Khan, Osama Tariq, Muzaffar Mateen, Shafqat Javed, Haji Liaqat, Nosher Khan, Malik Tahir, Mehar Jameel and other representatives of the union.
