ISLAMABAD: To instil a sense of duty in all ranks and files of players and all components of the cricket system, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has convened a Connection Camp on September 23.

The whole day’s brainstorming session was an effort to make all the relevant parts, of the player development system, realise the requirements of their respective job and their required professional contribution to make a solid base of the game’s technical hierarchy in the country.

Since there is no cohesion in the domestic cricket system and no apparent link between the domestic and international needs/requirements, the one-day Connection Camp has been convened to look into this most important aspect. ‘The News’ has learnt that the basic purpose of this endeavor is to maintain a close connection to domestic and international requirements in a way where every coach/player at the domestic level would be in a position to ascertain as to what is the exact nature of his job and what is required of him that in future could help the country at international level in all formats of the game and for all age cricket.

It is more an effort to help the PCB in its efforts to restore the pride and excellence of Pakistan cricket by promoting trust, collaboration, and shared goals. “There is no proper system that could ensure the systematic development as where the fault lies and what is required of domestic coaches/technical experts so that the best crop should be prepared for international cricket,” a source within the board, when approached, said. He added that it is a sort of effort where in the future it would be easier to fix the responsibility and to help every competent realize the importance of playing one brand of cricket.

“On different levels, we play different brands of cricket. Neither there is any cohesion nor is the responsibility fixed so there is a greater requirement for a proper realization amongst the players, coaches, and other technical experts.”

The connection camp will be attended by the chairman, Gary Kirsten, Jason Gillespie, around a dozen centrally and domestic contracted players as well as PCB’s executive team. “Jason is due back on September 22. Kirsten will be there as well as he would be in Faisalabad by then in Challenge Cup connection.”

It is believed that the vision of the connection camp is to discuss and agree on what type of cricket is required and what type is most suitable for Pakistan. “What type of culture do we want to create and operate in, and what do we want to be perceived as by fans, peers? Through the camp, the PCB will be aiming to achieve a unified vision and shared purpose, enhanced communications and trust to develop a commitment to accountability and strengthen team’s cohesion.”

‘The News’ has also learnt that there will be no discussion on captains of the national teams for upcoming international assignments as it will not be on the camp’s agenda. It will be an effort to make Pakistan cricket follow the international cricket requirements.
