QUETTA: During the current government’s tenure, additionally 542 schools have been closed in Balochistan. In May of this year, the number of non-functional schools was 3,152, which has now increased to 3,694.
According to the replies given by the education department during the questions raised in the Balochistan Assembly. The questions were not presented due to the absence of the concerned MPAs and were deferred for later sessions.
In Pishin district, 254 schools are closed, 251 in Khuzdar, and 152 in Quetta. In Dera Bugti, the home district of the Chief Minister of Balochistan, 13 schools are non-functional.
The province needs 16,000 teachers, and schools are closed due to a shortage of teachers. However, recruitment is currently underway for 9,496 vacant positions, but there is still a need for 16,000 teachers.
According to further details, the number of non-functional schools in Balochistan’s 35 districts has reached to 3,694. This figure was 3,152 as of May 17 this year. The report states that 152 schools are closed in Quetta, including 88 boys’ schools and 64 girls’ schools.
The highest number of school closures is in Pishin, with a total of 254 schools closed, including 168 boys’ schools and 86 girls’ schools.
In Khuzdar, 251 schools are closed, 179 in Kalat and Killa Saifullah, 174 in Barkhan, and 161 in Awaran. It should be mentioned that there are a total of 15,096 government schools in the province, with 48,841 teachers appointed.
