The month of August proved to be really tragic for law enforcement and security forces. Eleven cops embraced martyrdom in a rocket ambush in Punjab. It is evident that the dacoit problem in Sindh and Punjab’s riverine areas goes back decades and, despite several ‘grand operations', the criminals seem to bounce back every time, indicating that the state’s approach is flawed.
One proposed approach could be to remove firearms from among the local population and transform the region into a food basket.
