Lyari gang war commander held for killing Rangers soldier

Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a suspected commander of the Lyari gang war allegedly involved in the killing of a Rangers soldier in the Lyari area.

The suspect was arrested from the Kalri locality of Lyari. He was identified as Majid, alias Langra, said to be a key commander of the group of Abdul Jabbar, alias Jhengu, of the Lyari gang war.

Police said they also recovered a pistol, mobile phone and cash from his possession. According to police, the arrested man was involved in the killing of a Rangers soldier as he along with his accomplices shot and martyred Rangers employee Fawad Hussain on March 13, 2018, within the limits of the Baghdadi police station.

During the incident, three of the suspect's accomplices were killed, and one was arrested in an injured state. A case was registered against him under the FIR No 68/2018 and sections 302, 353, 324 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code read with the Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Baghdadi police station.

Police said the suspect was also involved in different cases of murder, attempted murder, encounters with police, and supplying explosives and illegal weapons.

The suspect had previously been arrested in over 10 cases by police of various stations and served jail time.
