Fox has officially announced that 9-1-1: Lone Star will be ending after its fifth season, which is set to premiere later this month.

The critically acclaimed hit series' final season, consisting of 12 episodes, will debut on September 23 and will wrap up over several months, concluding in early 2025.

While the news wasn’t a complete shock to fans—since series lead Rob Lowe had hinted that he expected the show to end with season five during an interview in August—it had not been officially confirmed until now.

"We all went into it pretty much knowing that it was going to be the last season, so that affected everything we did," Lowe said in the interview. "We wanted to really show everybody what is still possible in network television if people have the appetite to do it."

The decision to end the first responder drama comes as little surprise, given that its companion series, 9-1-1, moved to ABC from Fox earlier this year.

Both series are produced by 20th Television, which is now part of Disney following the 21st Century Fox-Disney merger. Since then, Fox Entertainment has been working to fully own or co-own its shows.
