ISLAMABAD: A majority of married women in Pakistan are happy with their mother-in-law and describe the relationship as strong.
This was revealed by Gallup Pakistan survey conducted among statistically selected people across the country.
The women included in the survey were asked “how is your relationship with your mother-in-law”. In response, 69 percent said it is strong, while 11pc complained of cold and said the relationship is weak.
14 percent refused to give a clear answer and described the relationship with mother-in-law as neither strong nor weak. Six percent did not answer this question.
The survey showed a higher percentage of rural women and women aged up to 30 years who said they have a strong relationship with their mother-in-law.
Seventy-two percent in villages, 64pc in cities, daughters-in-law said the relationship is strong.
In terms of age, 80pc of daughters-in-law up to 30 years of age said relationship with mother-in-law is ideal. 69pc of women aged 30 to 50 years and 24pc of women over 50 years of age are happy with their relationship with mother-in-law.
On the contrary, 50pc of women over the age of 50, 10pc of 30 to 50-year-olds, while only 3pc of women up to 30 years of age said their relationship with mother-in-law is weak.
Gallup Pakistan also asked a question to the people involved in the survey, how do they understand daughter-in-law and mother-in-law relationship in the country? Nineteen percent said it is difficult to give an opinion, while 2pc did not answer the question.
