LAHORE: A smartly turned-out contingent of Pakistan Army paid tributes at the memorial of Ghazian-e-Dograi in the Shaheed Cemetery in Lahore cantonment on Thursday.
A floral wreath was also laid at the memorial, which was built in honour of the 106 martyrs of the 16 Punjab Regiment. These soldiers laid down their lives defending the homeland during 1965 war at Dograi and thwarted the Indian Army's advances.
For their heroic deeds, the battalion was awarded the titles of 'Guardians of Lahore' and 'Ghazian-e-Dograi.' During the ceremony, war veterans from 1965 and 1971 reminisced about their combat experiences and the scenes they witnessed.
National heroes Major General (retd) Sikandar Shami, Brig (retd) Sher Afgan, and Major General (retd) Ghulam Dastgir and others paid tributes to their comrades and praised the Pakistan Army's unwavering spirit in defending the country, and hailed the desire for martyrdom as the hallmark of the armed forces.
