Maryam launches Himmat Cards for 65,000 people with special needs

Chief minister directed relevant authorities to begin disbursements via Himmat Cards by September 15

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday attended a ceremony to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Social Welfare Department and Bank of Punjab for issuance of Himmat Cards (ATM cards) to 65,000 individuals with special needs across Punjab. Through these cards, the recipients will receive Rs10,500 every quarter.

The chief minister directed the relevant authorities to begin disbursements via Himmat Cards by September 15.

Maryam said people with special needs are vital to us. “It is the state’s responsibility to care for deserving individuals with special needs.”

The chief minister was informed that Himmat Cards will be issued to 40,000 people in Phase I and 25,000 people in Phase II. Additionally, she was briefed that a 30% quota has been reserved for women in the cards. A dedicated helpline (1312) has also been established to assist those eligible for the Himmat Cards.

The MoU was signed by Secretary of Social Welfare Javed Akhtar Mahmood and President of the Bank of Punjab Zafar Masood. Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Sohail Shaukat Butt, MPA Sania Ashiq, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Chairman P&D Nabil Awan, DG Social Welfare Amna Munir and other relevant officials were present.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took notice of a kite-flying incident in Zafarwal and sought an immediate report from the IGP. She also instructed the authorities concerned to ensure the best treatment for the injured.

Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a pilgrim bus accident in Iran. She offered her condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
