ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Wednesday issued a notice to the Punjab government on the post-arrest bail plea of a suspect in the Jinnah House attack case.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah, heard the bail plea of Hammad Javed.
Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah asked the counsel about the charges against the accused to which Mugheez Tariq replied that his client had been accused of injuring a police constable with a stick.
The counsel, however, contended that the medical report indicated that the constable was actually injured by stones thrown by the crowd. At this, Justice Athar Minallah asked the counsel whether the accused was present at the scene. The counsel replied that his client was a shopkeeper and he was not present at the location when the incident occurred. Justice Minallah further asked the counsel whether any CCTV footage of the accused petitioner was available. The counsel replied in the negative adding that no evidence of presence of his client at the location was available.
The court issued a notice to the Punjab government and adjourned further hearing for date-in-office (Indefinite period).
The same bench also heard the pre-arrest bail plea of another accused and PTI MPA Muhammad Latif Nazar for his alleged involvement in the Jinnah House attack case. The court adjourned the hearing for date-in-office (Indefinite period) after an assistant of the counsel for the petitioner informed the court that the main counsel Muhammad Akram Awan could not appear before the court due to ill health.
