Asad Majeed assumes office of ECO secretary

Majeed is 14th secretary general of 10-member organisation

ISLAMABAD: Former foreign secretary Dr Asad Majeed Khan has assumed office of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) secretary general at its headquarters in Tehran. He will continue in the office for the next three years.

He is the 14th secretary general of the 10-member organisation. He has replaced Khusrav Noziri of Tajikistan, who has relinquished the office. Pakistan, Türkiye and Iran are founding members of the ECO while Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan joined it subsequently.

Earlier, Majeed had a farewell meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar who expressed confidence in his talent and capabilities and asked him follow the ECO vision of 2025 zealously.
