This will allow people to pay taxes from the comfort of their homes, said Senior Minister and Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, and Taxation, Sharjeel Inam Memon. Officials said that a meeting of the Excise and Taxation Department was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Memon. The meeting was attended by Secretary Excise and Taxation Muhammad Saleem Rajput, DG Excise Aurangzeb Akbar Panhwar and other directors.

The minister stated that the new digital service has been designed to save people’s time, reduce hassles, and bring convenience to their fingertips. Transparency will be promoted, and people will now be able to pay vehicle taxes from the comfort of their homes, he added.

He said that the public will be able to pay taxes in minutes in a safe and reliable manner at any time. The Excise and Taxation Department is committed to providing the best efficiency and convenience to the public, he said.

Memon stated that checkpoints will be established at the entry and exit points of major cities, where vehicles will be checked for taxation compliance, and action will be taken against tax-defaulting vehicles.

In the first phase, a kiosk will be set up at the Karachi Toll Station, where the tax records of vehicles will be checked. Tax-defaulting vehicles will be impounded until the owners pay the outstanding tax.

In the meeting, the senior minister issued instructions to facilitate vehicle registration at showrooms. It was also decided to soon start the second phase of issuing premium number plates.

He stated that the second phase of issuing premium number plates will begin soon. In this phase, 50 numbers will be issued as part of a fundraising event for flood victims. He mentioned that an online fundraising event will be held for the issuance of premium numbers, where around 200 numbers will be available for acquisition by donors.

The proceeds will be donated to build houses for flood victims. Separate smart cards will be issued to those who have already acquired premium number plates in the first fundraising event, which was held on June 29, 2024.

The minister mentioned that the smart card will discourage forgery of premium number plates. A new smart card will be issued to the owners of premium number plates in case of changing the vehicle.
