ISLAMABAD: The telecom regulator has warned people to exercise caution when buying cloned or duplicate mobile devices from the market.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) advocated for purchases from reputable retailers, ensuring an active warranty. To ensure a secure purchase, the PTA recommended that the consumers get phones in their original packaging, verify their IMEI numbers match those printed on the boxes, and check for its stamp on the boxes. They can validate their devices by using the DVS app, sending an SMS with their IMEI number to 8484, and visiting the PTA website.
The regulator warned people against buying expensive devices at suspiciously low prices or without a warranty. It said if customers suspected fraud, they should ensure their devices are packaged, contact the seller, and report any issues to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for action.
