LAHORE: Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) Chairperson Hina Parvez Butt has said that harassment of women at workplaces and homes will not be tolerated. She urged women to report any injustice they faced and assured them of immediate action and full cooperation from the Punjab police.
Speaking at a seminar organised by the National Commission of Women at a local hotel, Hina emphasised the importance of women standing up against domestic violence. She encouraged those suffering in silence to muster the courage to come forward.
"Women resorting to suicide is the extreme consequence of the grave issue of blackmailing and harassment they faced," she noted. She highlighted the disparity between ordinary women and women in politics, questioning whether common women received the same respect as their political counterparts. She encouraged women to participate in elections and hold significant positions. "Are women only included in assemblies for law-making and budget approvals?" she asked, advocating for increased female representation in politics and other key sectors to better serve and empower ordinary women.
In her first ten days as chairperson of PWPA, Hina toured fifteen districts. "My mission is to provide protection to women and rectify any form of injustice they encounter," she declared.
