LONDON: Nine crew members died and four others were missing after their fishing vessel hit bad weather east of the Falkland Islands, authorities in the British overseas territory said on Wednesday.
The Argos Georgia issued a mayday call after it took on water some 200 nautical miles east of the Falklands capital Stanley, forcing the 27 people on board to abandon ship.
A search and rescue operation was launched involving the authorities on the remote self-governing islands in the South Atlantic Ocean, nearby vessels and British military aircraft.
