AKU experts, commissioner discuss child health programme

A team of medical experts from the Aga Khan University (AKU) working for the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) programme initiated by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on Monday held a meeting with Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi to discuss ways to improve child health and prevent child mortality.

The AKU experts briefed the commissioner on the CHAMPS’ objectives and activities. According to a statement issued on Monday, Sindh Health Director Dr Abdul Momin Qazi informed the commissioner that the AKU was conducting a study in Karachi to improve child health and prevent child mortality by enhancing paediatric care. The team would conduct a survey in two districts of Karachi — Korangi and Malir — to assess the health status of children and identify areas for improvement.
