LALAMUSA: Jamaat-e-Islami North Punjab ameer Dr Tariq Saleem has raised a fervent call to action against the increasing electricity bills, which he describes as a “death knell” for the people.

Talking to media, Dr Tariq Saleem announced that a nationwide sit-in on July 12 would be the largest in the country’s history, as the citizens would rally against what they perceive as the oppressive economic policies. “The tyrant rulers have stripped the people of their right to live,” he added. “Electricity bills have become the death knell for the people,” Dr Tariq Saleem stated. “The nation will only support the Jamaat-e-Islami, and we promise to make electricity free.” He criticised the government for increasing their salaries and perks through borrowing from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at interest, while the ordinary citizens suffer.

He highlighted the disparity between the ruling elite, who he claimed keep their wealth abroad, and the common people, who struggle to make ends meet. “Our country is drowning in usury,” he continued. The economic strain has made it increasingly difficult for households to manage their daily expenses. Many people are reportedly forced to sell their possessions to pay off the skyrocketing electricity bills.
