Robbery on motorway: Victim seeks KP IGP’s help in arresting accused

CHARSADDA: The head of a Pakistani-American family, who had been recently looted on Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway, has appealed to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa inspector general of police to help recover the snatched valuables, arrest the accused and award them exemplary punishment

Talking to reporters here, Muhammad Ilyas Khan said that they were not satisfied with the police performances as no real culprits involved in the brazen act of robbery had been arrested despite passage of 20 days since the incident occurred.

He rejected the police claim about the recovery of their identity cards from the accused homes and tyre blaster, saying that these items were recovered a few meters away from the place of occurrence.

Ilyas Khan said that they had also approached the US Embassy in Islamabad to seek help in recovery of items and documents and take action against the accused.It may be mentioned that armed men had robbed the Pakistani-American family on the motorway near Kabuli Koroona in the jurisdiction of Nissatta Police Station on June 16 last.

The robbers had robbed the couple of their mobile phones, jewelry, cash, and essential travel

documents before fleeing the scene. A case had been lodged on behalf of the family head Ilyas Khan.

The family members originally belong to Kurram district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and are also American citizens. They had come to Pakistan from the United States to celebrate Eid and were currently residing in Islamabad.

On their way back to Islamabad from a trip to Peshawar, their vehicle was forced to stop near Kabuli Koroona when unknown robbers used a tyre blaster to puncture their car’s tyres. As soon as they got out of the vehicle, three armed robbers approached and snatched three iPhones, jewelry, cash, and travel documents at gunpoint from them.

The robbers had also attempted to harass the family members.District Police Officer Masood Ahmad said that the police had identified the accused and had raided their houses in Nowshera but they were hiding somewhere elseHe said the police had expanded their investigation to ensure the prompt arrest of the culprits.
