Officials said police on routine patrol tried to intercept a suspicious white Corolla, but the people in the car opened fire on the law enforcers. During the gunfight, two women in an Alto were wounded. They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where one of the victims succumbed to her injuries. The deceased was identified as Sara Ibrahim, 59, and her injured daughter as Ghano, 18.

Police said the women were returning home to Thatta when they were caught in the crossfire. However, police claimed that one of the suspects was also wounded, but he escaped with his accomplices.

Police said the suspects in the white Corolla are involved in robbing cash from people. They said one of the suspects had used a Kalashnikov to fire at them. The suspects use fake vehicle registration number plates, they added.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has asked the District Malir SSP for detailed information about the initial police action. He said the hospital administration should be contacted about the treatment of the injured woman. He stressed that the suspects involved in the firing incident should be immediately arrested.

Beheaded bodies

Police claimed on Thursday to have solved the mystery surrounding the headless bodies discovered in Quaidabad and Memon Goth areas by arresting individuals involved in the two murders.

SSP Investigation Malir Zafar Siddiq addressed the media at his office, stating that on July 2, human torsos were found in Quaidabad and Memon Goth. Within 24 hours, the police not only identified the victims but also apprehended suspects linked to the murders, recovering weapons and other evidence.

Siddiq detailed that the torso found in Maula Madad graveyard, Quaidabad, belonged to Jamal Shah, 30, son of Muhib Shah. The investigation led to the arrest of Muhammad Syed and his wife Nasira for the murder, along with the recovery of the murder weapon.

“They revealed that Jamal Shah had been blackmailing Nasira for three months, a fact her husband discovered. Planning the crime, they invited Jamal Shah to their home, drugged him, and strangled him with a rope. They then dismembered his body into seven pieces with a cleaver, disposing of the torso in a sack in the graveyard and dumping other parts in a sewage drain.”

The SSP also reported the discovery of the headless body of Irfan, son of Janib Ali, near the Memon Goth police station. Irfan, 26, from Shanti Nagar, had disappeared on July 1 after leaving to meet a friend. Investigation led to the arrest of two of his friends, Tabish alias Tabeer.

“They confessed that Irfan was blackmailing their fiancées and refused to hand over his phone when confronted, prompting them to kill him with a sharp weapon.” Investigation into both cases was ongoing.
