Two cops on polio duty injured in Tank, DIK firings

TANK/ DI KHAN: Two cops on polio duty were injured in separate attacks in Tank and Dera Ismail Khan districts on Wednesday, officials said.

District Police Officer, Tank, Abdul Salam Khalid said armed men opened fire on a cop, who was providing security to polio vaccinators at Shah Alam area, leaving him critically injured.The injured cop was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Tank. A heavy contingent of the police arrived at the spot after the firing incident and launched a search operation.

Meanwhile, unidentified assailants shot and injured a police constable assigned to protect a polio vaccination team in the Madi area of Kulachi tehsil here on Monday.The constable, identified as Asif, was performing security duty for polio workers when the attackers opened fire on him.Police said they had launched an operation to arrest the culprit soon after the incident.
