PESHAWAR: The video-sharing app TikTok has sent a letter to the Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, stating that the social media platform has a strict policy about blasphemous content.
Fahad Mohammad Niazi, head of Public Policy and Government Relations-Emerging Markets, Global Public Policy TikTok, wrote the letter after a writ petition recently filed in the PHC seeking a ban on the social media platform.
Taking up the petition, the PHC had directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to remove blasphemous and objectionable content from TikTok. The court had directed the telecom operator to address the concerns raised in the petition.
Imran Khan had filed the petition, requesting the court to direct the respondents — PTA, Federal Investigation Agency, and Ministry of Information — to ban TikTok in the country. The letter from TikTok further said the platform had given special access through a portal to the PTA to review any objection content on the app.
The letter said that TikTok was aware of the sensitivity of the issue and took immediate steps to block and remove blasphemous and objectionable content from its platform. It said that TikTok would spare no effort to remove sacrilegious and objectionable content from its platform.
