HEC formally okays raise for VCs

The Federal Higher Education Commission has formally approved an increase in the salaries of the vice chancellors. This was approved in the 43rd meeting of the commission chaired by Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed.

It was decided in the meeting that the salaries of vice chancellors of universities across the country are low and should be increased and made uniform. It was decided in the meeting that the salary of the vice-chancellor should be made equal to that of a tenure track professor with all allowances, including the VC’s allowance, to one million rupees.

The meeting also approved the Transnational Policy 2024, under which 35 Pakistani universities/colleges affiliated to foreign universities will be required to have a new NOC and admissions will not be granted without it.

A member of the commission said that 35 Pakistani institutions are affiliated with foreign universities and are running their degree programmes online or physically, but now they have to get a new NOC and only from the top 700 universities included in the world ranking. They will open their campus regularly but first they will get their NOC from their country and then they will get NOC from Pakistan after which they can start their admissions.
