The suspects riding a motorbike fired at another motorcyclist near a pharmaceutical company. As a result, the rider was killed on the spot. The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where the deceased was identified as Aamir Abbasi, 33.

The victim was a councillor of Ward 4, Bhittai Colony, and belonged to the PPP. Following the incident, senior police officials reached the crime scene to inquire about the incident. Citing the initial investigation, police said Abbasi had some disputes with the locals, and a case was being heard in the District Malir Court. Officials said the man was targeted on his way back from a court hearing.

Police said that two unidentified armed assailants, who had been following him, fired at him from behind. The investigators found a 9mm pistol’s bullet shell at the crime scene. Abbasi had been a resident of Bhittai Colony, Korangi Crossing, and apart from being a local government representative, he also worked at a nursery. Police believe the incident to be a target killing due to personal enmity.

Officials said they are trying to obtain CCTV camera footage of the incident, adding that they have also conducted geo-fencing. They said that efforts are under way to trace and apprehend the culprits.

PPP Member of Provincial Assembly Farooq Awan censured the incident, claiming that Abbasi had been targeted and shot dead because of his affiliation with the PPP.
