Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon has said appointments and transfers of traffic section officers (SO) and Record Keepers (RK) should be banned for the next six months.
Officials said on Saturday Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, while addressing traffic police officers at a function organised regarding traffic management and issues at The Scout Auditorium near the Sindh Secretariat, saluted the traffic police officers and jawans for performing their duties with utmost dedication and dedication said that despite the ongoing extreme heatwave in the city.
The Karachi police chief, the acting Traffic DIG and other officers were also present on the occasion. Memon said appointments and transfers of section officers traffic and record keepers are being banned for the next six months. He said that on complaints against traffic SOs and record keepers, the SP and the DSP will take departmental action against them.
He told the additional IG of Karachi that he would allow appointments and transfers of SOs and record keepers only on the suggestion of SPs and DSPs Traffic. He said that from June 2023 to June 2024, 255 traffic SOs and 244 record keepers were appointed and transferred, but we should be well aware that irrational appointments and transfers have an extraordinary impact on traffic and administrative matters.
The IGP said that only the traffic officer will be authorized to issue the challan. The SO will have the authority to issue ticket challans for overspeeding, violations of traffic light signals and violations of the rule regarding the wrong way. He said all the challaning officers engaged in measures such as enforcement and implementation of traffic rules will ensure the use of body-worn cameras, which will be able to document the challaning process.
Memon said that during main traffic campaigns regarding traffic rules, the SP and the DSP will not only be present on the spot but will also lead the campaign regularly. He further said that action will also be taken against the SP and the DSP in case of a complaint against traffic police personnel. He said that due to illegal and individual actions of some elements, the entire police department comes under criticism.
The IGP further said the health insurance policy of up to Rs1 million is being introduced for the welfare of police personnel while a direct budget is also being given to police stations so that they can be financially autonomous.
A committee should be formed for the construction of new police posts and repair of old ones and a draft containing comprehensive proposals should be sent for approval from the government. He said suggestions such as increasing mobile toilets and other essential vehicles of traffic should also be included in the proposals.
