The K-Electric (KE) has assured Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah of decreasing power cuts in Karachi. The assurance was given when the minister paid a visit to the Central Load Dispatch Centre (CLD) of the KE in the late hours of Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the power utility, the energy minister was received by CEO Moonis Abdullah Alvi along with other high officers of the company who briefed Shah on the operations of the CLD.
“I visited K-Electric to personally observe the situation, and met with the CEO and leadership team. The power supply situation is generally under control, with visible relief being provided to the residents of Karachi,” the KE quoted the minister as saying. Shah also commended the power utility for minimising power supply interruptions, particularly after midnight.
The energy minister also assured the KE that the Sindh government would help it overcome its challenges. He noted that several high-loss areas were receiving uninterrupted power supply after midnight. Shah was briefed on the current challenges, including the collection of electricity dues from the Sindh government.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Sindh government read that after the energy minister’s directives to ensure power supply after midnight, there had been improvement in some areas and the energy minister was informed that there would be a further decline in power cuts in three to four days.
Shah said that the purpose of his visit to the KE was to review the arrangements of the power utility regarding the city's electricity demand. He added that due to load-shedding, people were suffering and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had directed that maximum relief should be given to the people regarding water and electricity.
