The Karachi police spokesperson identified the victim as 27-year-old Nauman, son of Riaz. His body was transferred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for an autopsy. SP Gulshan Iqbal Aleem Baloch, speaking at the JPMC, reported initial findings suggesting that Nauman and a friend were riding their motorcycle when assailants on another bike attempted to intercept them. Upon refusal to stop, the attackers opened fire.

Despite prompt response from patrolling officers of the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station upon hearing gunshots, the assailants fled. Baloch indicated the incident likely stemmed from a robbery attempt.

Nauman, an electrician, was the second eldest among three brothers and one sister. His father revealed he had recently passed a police recruitment test, expressing optimism about joining on merit.

According to the family, Nauman and his friend were targeted while riding together. The friend recounted the assailants’ attempt to halt them, followed by gunfire when they continued. Nauman’s paternal aunt, visiting from abroad, had just departed for the airport as he set off on the motorcycle with his friend. The family implored the Sindh IGP to ascertain the nature of the incident. Ahmed, the victim’s friend, recounted Nauman being shot in the chest after defying orders to stop. Initially treated at a nearby private hospital, Nauman succumbed to his injuries. Following the Friday prayers, funeral prayers for Nauman were offered at a local mosque.
