The investigation has been assigned to an experienced and well-reputed police officer, DSP Siraj Lashari. As per the official notification issued by the DIG Crime and Investigation Branch of the Sindh Police, Amir Farooqi, the investigation of charges mentioned in the FIR (133/2024) registered at Police Station Mirpur Mathelo has been assigned to Siraj Lashari, who is a DSP of the Rapid Response Force, Hyderabad. DSP Lashari has been directed by higher police authorities to finalise the probe purely on merit.

Gadani died in a local hospital in Karachi on May 24 after being seriously injured in an armed attack on May 21 in Mirpur Mathelo, a town of District Ghotki. The case was registered on a complaint of his mother Pathani on May 26 against unknown murderers, and on June 26 eyewitnesses named an MNA and his two sons for masterminding the killing.

Though the Ghotki police claimed to have solved the murder case, recovered the murder weapon, a pistol, and the motorbike reportedly used in the murder of journalist Gadani, and arrested Asghar Loond, one of the three alleged killers, they have faced severe criticism from the media and civil society. A board of the Sukkur police constituted on the directions of DIG Sukkur Pir Muhammad Shah recommended the police higher authorities to transfer the investigation of the case to any experienced and well-reputed officer. Gadani was the seventh journalist who lost his life in the line of duty in the last four years.
