“We have been facing over 10-hour power outages daily and even then the Peshawar Electric Supply Company dispatches exorbitant utility bills, which we cannot afford to pay,” former district councillor Nawaz Khan told the protesters.

The protesters from different localities assembled at the Karakoram Highway and blocked it to traffic for over an hour, setting tyres on fire. They chanted slogans against the Pesco and demanded an immediate withdrawal of excessive bills and an end to prolonged and unscheduled power outages.

“We have initiated a regular agitation against the Pesco and will block KKH daily to lodge our protest against the inflated utility bills and excessive loadshedding,” Nawaz Khan said.He said the government should immediately withdraw extra surcharges and levies imposed on electricity usage.
