Body in a box found in canal

LAHORE:Body of an unidentified 35-year-old man has been recovered from a box in Harbanspura.

A passerby spotted the box in a canal near a medical scheme. When it was fished out and checked, a body was recovered from it. A police team reached the spot on information and moved it to morgue for autopsy. Police collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and recorded statements of eye-witnesses. The identity of the body could not be ascertained. Police said they were investigating the matter.

Labourer electrocuted

A labourer was electrocuted in Askari-IX on Thursday. A worker was working at an under-construction house near PAF Colony when an iron rod touched an electric wire. As a result, he suffered fatal electric shock and died instantly. The labourer’s body has been removed for an autopsy.

Two bike lifters arrested

Quid-e-Azam Industrial Estate police has arrested two members of a bike lifting gang. Three bikes, master keys, spare parts and engine were recovered from the suspects identified as Huzaifa Khalid and M Hassan. The suspects were habitual offenders and had been to jail before. Many cases have been traced to them.

228 road accidents in City

At least 15 people died, whereas 1,237 were injured in 1,173 road accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Out of these, 547 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 690 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.

The statistics showed that 228 road accidents were reported in Lahore, which affected 244 persons placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list followed by Gujranwala 76 in with 79 victims and at third Faisalabad with 75 road accidents and 76 victims.

The majority (76%) of these incidents involved motorbikes, underscoring the critical need for effective enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline to curb the rising number of road accidents.

Man commits suicide

A 35-year-old man has committed suicide by hanging himself in Walton on Thursday. The victim, identified as Abdul Rehman Yousaf, reportedly was frustrated due to his poor domestic conditions and on the day of the incident, he locked himself in a room and hanged himself with a fan. His body was moved to morgue while Police said that they were investigating the matter further.
