ISLAMABAD: Amidst protest by the Pak-PWD employees, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a five-member committee to finalise the transition plan to wind up the country’s oldest department.
Minister for Housing and Works heads the committee which also comprises deputy chairman Planning Commission, secretary Establishment Division, secretary Housing and Works and secretary Power Division.
The Prime Minister’s Office while notifying the five-member committee, has also issued its Terms of References (ToRs).
The committee has been mandated to furnish alternative models and plans for maintenance of assets currently on the charge of Pak-PWD.
It would also recommend plan for continued oversight of ongoing projects assigned to the Pak-PWD during and after the transition period. The committee will also deal with the human resource issues. Meanwhile, the joint action committee of six employees unions staged a protest in front of Pak-PWD head office in Sector G-9. The leaders condemned the government’s decision to abolish the department and announced that they would move courts if the government continued to move ahead with its decision.
