LAHORE: Pakistan Railways (PR) has achieved a milestone as it has run the longest freight train of its history, a Railways spokesperson said on Friday. The freight train is 2,500 feet long containing 50 wagons operated by a powerful engine.
“The train successfully transported over 3,000 tons of cargo from Karachi to Kotri. The train, though capable of reaching 60 kilometers per hour, maintained an average speed of 38 kilometers per hour throughout the journey. This powerful freight train can haul cargo equivalent to over 94 22-wheeler trucks, significantly reducing traffic congestion and environmental impact on roads, the spokesperson added.
