Meta Tuesday responded to the disruptions that its platforms are facing worldwide, which has affected tens of thousands of people.
“We're aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter, which was flooded with memes related to the outage of WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and other Meta platforms.
Meta's status dashboard showed the application programming interface for WhatsApp Business was also facing issues. There were around 200 reports of outages for WhatsApp on Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from several sources, including users.
The outage was among the top trending topics on X, formerly Twitter, with several users saying they had suddenly been logged out of the Meta-owned social media platforms.
Taking advantage of the rival social media site outage, X owner Elon Musk joined thousands of other users in mocking the Meta over the outage.
Musk posted on X a tweet from Meta communications boss Andy Stone highlighting the outrage onto a photo of three penguins emblazoned with Meta company logos saluting a penguin emblazoned with an X logo.
However, a spokesperson for the tech giant later confirmed the restoration of social sites with an apology for users' "inconvenience".
"Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience," the spox stated.
