Govt, industry, academia liaison key to drive Pakistan out of crisis

LAHORE: The eminent experts stressed the need of collaboration among the government, industry and academia to drive Pakistan out of crisis and make it a developed country.

They were addressing the inaugural session of 9th Invention to Innovation Summit organised by PU’s Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) on Tuesday after a gap of five years.

PHEC Chairman Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Pakistan Science Foundation Chairman M Akram Sheikh, Director ORIC Prof Dr Shakil Ahmed, researchers, experts from industries, faculty members and a large number of students were present. Addressing the ceremony, Prof Dr Shahid Munir said that nations making innovations were ruling the world, for which the role of educational institutions was important. He further said that many developed countries of the world were behind Pakistan in the 1960s.

9,739 awarded degrees

The 11th convocation of the University of Education was held here Tuesday in which a total number of 9,739 graduates were awarded degrees. Chancellor/Governor of the Punjab, Engr Muhammad Balighur Rahman presided over the ceremony in which 82 graduating students were also awarded with medals.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Alam Saeed, former VC of UE Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha along with vice-chancellors of various universities, faculty members, and students attended the convocation.

On this occasion, Balighur Rahman also inaugurated the UE Sports Arena and swimming pool. During his presidential address, governor congratulated all the students, their parents and teachers. He said the University of Education was one of the best universities in the country.

He further said the role of teachers was significant in creating awareness and personality of students with high academic standards, who undoubtedly nurture the creative spirit of students with sincere intention, which motivates the learning process. Prof Dr Muhammad Alam Saeed said that the main objective of establishing UE was to prepare people for education and other fields, who have practical skills along with book knowledge.
